Jailhouse Rock

30 years ago this week (aug 16th) ELVIS left the building for good. Many of the people on my freinds list were not even born yet. A few were. For those that were not ELVIS' passing was the equivelant of Kurt Cobain dying times 1000 over. I grew up on ELVIS movies which were hokey and fun to watch. The occasionial serious performance (Change of Habit). To those were not alive then ELVIS was a Vegas Lounge act. To those that grew up with ELVIS he was/is the greatest male performer in Rock'n'Roll. He brought R&B to the white audiences and brought women to their knees. By today's standards he was tame but in 1956 he was the boy parents wanted to keep their daughters from. I imagine that if ELVIS hadn't been under the ironfisted control of Colonel Tom Parker he would have mad better movies and continued to sing Rock'n"Roll instead of silly movie soundtrack fillers in his later films. There was a little film in 1988 called "Heartbreak Hotel"

Heartbreak Hotel..

A teenager kidanps ELVIS becuase his mom is feeling blue. The kid has a band (of course) and he gets around to asking ELVIS "why did you stop singing Rock'n'Roll?" ELIVS ends up fronting the kid's band at the High School show. ELVIS rocks, fun to watch. I miss ELVIS, not overweight or medicated ELVIS. I miss 1968 black-leatehr clad ELVIS just sitting on the stage with a guitar jamming with his buddies.I was 6 years old when that special ran on T.V. (ELVIS '68 Comeback Special)

Elvis Presley: Elvis: '68 Comeback Special (3-Disc Series)

For those of you who were not alive when ELVIS ruled the World add the '68 Special to your NetFlix list and you will see what all the excitement and the mourning of his death every year is about. For those who do remember rent it and rememebr why we loved him so.
